Understand your Personality Profile

Personality profiling is based on a study of temperaments and classification through a through study by eminent psychologists. Throughout history, we have always been fascinated by different behaviors by various individuals.

Temperament simply means observable personality traits, like the way we talk, the way we act or our unique patterns of action. We can also call them as our own unique set of attitudes, values, and talents. Our personal as well as professional needs also differ based on our temperament, which dictate the roles we are likely to play in our workplace as well as in the society.

Every individual is an unique person

All of us have our own unique positive qualities as well as shortcomings. In addition, we also have our own strengths and weaknesses. It would not be possible to understand personalities, if they are not grouped or classified in an understandable format. Dr. David Keirsey had identified four basic personalities, which he called as artisans, guardians, idealists and rationals.

Personality profiling is based on a combination of four dimensions of our personality. Although, all of us exhibit all types of temperaments, some are more dominant than the others. The combination of your most dominant preferences is used to create your individual personality type. They are like inputs, analysis, decision and outputs of a computer.

Sensing or Intuition

First of all, each of us observe the world around us differently. People can be classified as sensing or intuitive personalities. This quality in people makes us different in the way we notice whatever is happening around us. Let’s see why some of our friends are able to remember and recollect every happening correctly, whereas others don’t exactly remember the exact sequence of activities on a particular time.

Some of us, who could be called sensing personalities, observe whatever is happening and quickly pick up a lot of details. No sight misses our eyes, no noise goes un-noticed, no smell escapes our attention, no taste is forgotten nor is any feel of a texture. As a person with sensing nature, our five sense organs eyes, nose, ears, tongue and touch are perfectly tuned to absorb the activities around us.

On the other hand, some of us who could be called intuitive, are contemplative and try to find a pattern in whatever is happening around us. In the sense, we are not really bothered about nor do we notice everything which happens around us, but are interested in knowing why anything is happening in a particular manner. That makes us think about the reason behind the action rather than observing what is going on. As intuitive personalities, whenever a particular activity is happening around us we are busy processing or contemplating about something else.

Thinking or Feeling

The second facet of our personality is interpreting the received information. Personalities can be classified as having a thinking or a feeling temperament. This quality in people makes them decide the amount of importance, they would like to give to the actual facts, details or data. Let us see why some of our bosses or teachers are strict and unforgiving, while others are more considerate, is we don’t match up to their expectations.

Some of us are quite who could be classified as thinkers, are very much concerned about the details or data in every occasion. Our analysis of received information is based on the facts and figures of the activity. As thinking personalities, we are basically concerned with what has actually happened and not interested in knowing about the circumstances which led to the activity.

On the other hand, some among us, who could be classified as feeling people, are less concerned with the actual facts but dwell more about the circumstances which led to those facts. We tend to put ourselves in the other persons shoes and look at the issue with due consideration for emotions. Hence, we tend to take a considerate view of the matter and are ready to accept that analysis of data is not always the right. As feeling personalities, we believe that a human approach is required in human relations.

Judging or Perceiving

The third facet of our personality, is the image we want to project about ourselves to others around us. Personality profiles can be classified as having a judging and perceiving temperament. I want to repeat, that is not not the way we really are, this is the way we want others to look at us. In other words, this is the way we want the world to believe, about our personality. Let’s see why are some of our friends or children are so organised, whereas others appear to work at random.

Some of us, classified as judging personalities, believe so much in our own thought process, that we feel it is mandatory for others to fall in line with our plans. Hence, we tend to use whatever means available with us to make others do what what we think is right. As judging personalities, would not want to bend ourselves to the way the world is moving around us but are keen to make people act in the way we want them to act.

On the other hand, some of us who could be called perceptors, are more considerate to other’s point of view and hence do not try to impress our views on others. We believe in giving each one their own space and let them take their own decisions. Therefore, we do not try to change other’s point of view by use of words or by actions. In other words, as perceptors, we try to be flexible and try to adapt ourselves to the world around us.

Extroversion or Introversion

The last facet of our personality is the way we interact with others. Personalities can be classified as extroverted and introverted temperament. This is the most observable manifestation of our temperament. You can easily observe that some of us talk a lot whereas others remain silent and talk sparingly. Let’s see, why is that some of our friends are very talkative while others are quite reserved. Let us try to understand, what goes on in their mind which makes them different from each other.

Some of us, who could be called extroverts, like to talk a lot, be with a lot of friends, enjoy open conversations and feel happy to give as well as take ideas from others. We feel that the solution to all our problems lies in the group of people who we are moving around with. Therefore, as extroverts, we are open and readily share all our private information to others and seek solutions.

On the other hand, some of us, who could be called introverts, think a lot before speaking out and when we speak we want to be sure of what we are telling is right. Because of this reason, we do not react spontaneously and are deeply engrossed in listening to others and processing the received information in as many ways as possible. As an introverted person, we feel that solution to our problems would be found only by due thought and contemplation in silence.
